This week was about anticipation and preparation. Preparation for the coming of our King, as we walk into the final week of Advent, may LOVE radiate in your hearts for the anticipation of the birth of Jesus Christ. In addition, to preparations for the final days of school before Christmas break, students & staff waited patiently with anticipation of the launch of their SJS 2020 Christmas Concert. You will also find a performance by the SJ staff singing O Holy Night. Continue reading to the end of QS to find the links…….

Thank you, sit back and enjoy the show!!

December 11 2020

Flurries of activities took place this week with preparations of this year’s Christmas concert. Classes have taken their performances to the stage, filming has begun and the anticipation is mounting.  Watch for next week’s QS for a front row seat to SJ 2020 Christmas concert. Families are welcome to make a donation towards what will be an amazing performance.

Break the rule day! Today students by donation were able to break some school rules: some wore a hat, others wore their hoodie up, others wore regular clothes. Shortbread cookies and hot chocolate too were available. Grade 7 designated all proceeds ($775.00) to go towards the purchase of gifts and grocery gift cards for the North Okanagan Friendship Centre, for families of toddlers to children of 8 years of age. May their Christmas be filled with Love and Peace.

December 8 2020

How blessed we were to have received a donation of 160 new rosaries.

Every student in Grade 2 – 7 received a rosary today on the Feast of the Immaculate Conception.

Each class prayed 1 Hail Mary for everyone affected by Covid.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church explains the Immaculate Conception this way:

490 To become the mother of the Saviour, Mary “was enriched by God with gifts appropriate to such a role.” The angel Gabriel at the moment of the annunciation salutes her as “full of grace”.  In fact, in order for Mary to be able to give the free assent of her faith to the announcement of her vocation, it was necessary that she be wholly borne by God’s grace.

491 Through the centuries the Church has become ever more aware that Mary, “full of grace” through God, was redeemed from the moment of her conception. That is what the dogma of the Immaculate Conception confesses, as Pope Pius IX proclaimed in 1854:

The most Blessed Virgin Mary was, from the first moment of her conception, by a singular grace and privilege of almighty God and by virtue of the merits of Jesus Christ, Saviour of the human race, preserved immune from all stain of original sin.

Mrs. Kilarski’s Grade 6 class took off to Marsville.  Today the students built domes as their means of transportation to get to their planet or moon of choice. Neptune and Uranius’s moon Ophelia were a couple of the destinations. The energy and excitement amongst students and volunteers was vibrant in the gymnasium. Check out our FB page for photos.

November 27 2020

Our school has begun to prepare for the Season of Hope and Expectation, Advent.  The Grade 4 class created stunning Advent wreaths made of beautiful cedars, candles, pine cones and kinikinik. The radiance upon the Grade 4 student faces spoke volumes on the impact of Mrs Durfeld’s annual Advent wreath making, had on her students. Kindergarten experienced their first field trip of the year, to the Okanagan Science centre. The excitement was apparent as they set off on their excursion. Their BIG rosy cheeks and smiles on their return were paramount.

Stay tuned

November 6 2020

Our week ends on a glorious sunny day. We give thanks to  the Good Lord who continues to bless our students and staff. Our classrooms, hallways and playgrounds are filled with laughter, love and random acts of kindness. As Remembrance day approaches may it be a day of reflection for those who have gone before us. Lest we forget. God bless us all.

October 30 2020

The sun shone on our beautiful Halloween parade this morning. The students’ costumes were amazing. We had dinosaurs, princesses, cowboys, football players etc. Imaginations and creative minds were abundant. The students and staff were excited to be able to participate in the annual event. What a memorable way to end the month of October and welcome November All Saints & All Souls month.

Volleyball began this week for grades 5, 6 and 7. It has been wonderful to hear the loud cheering and see the team’s camaraderie. Our inaugural Liturgical dance team also started practices after school, this week. Stay tuned as a Spring performance is in the making. The postponed sacraments of First Holy communion and Confirmation have begun to be celebrated at OLOV and St. James churches. May we keep these students in our prayers as they receive these blessed sacraments.

October 7 2020

Today was an exceptionally exciting day. The Grade 2 & 3 classes went on the first field trip of the year. Their adventure took them to Myra Canyon Adventure Park. We look forward to hearing ALL about it! Grades 4, 5, 6 and 7 will go to the Adventure Park in the coming week.

May you have a blessed Thanksgiving, shared with family and friends.

T.A.B. at St. James School!

St. James School participates in the Take A Breath (TAB) program. This is an initiative that coaches all students, families, and staff on how to better manage anxiety and stress. This is a growing epidemic in our society, and Jeff and Sonya Thomlinson, of Kelowna BC, have developed an excellent resource to assist us in our awareness and ability to overcome the debilitating effects of stress and anxiety.
