Our Remembrance Day ceremony was celebrated today with Elder Virginia Gregoire and William Robins from the Okanagan Indian Band (OKIB), as well as veterans Mr. David Elrick and Mr. George Doncaster. Elder Virginia Gregoire led us in prayer spoken in the Sylix Language. Many members of her family have been students at St. James School and her granddaughter Lacey Gregoire accompanied her on this visit. Lacey was a student of SJS and was a member of the School Council for many years. Her son Devon attended SJS as well. Bill Robins drummed and sang an Okanagan Welcome Song and shared that as a former student of St. James School he was happy to be invited to participate. It is important to know that SJS would not have been established without the support of the families of the OKIB. Thank you to Ms. Haack and Mrs. Witteman and the Grade 5 and 6 classes for organizing and presenting such an impactful ceremony. Also, thanks to Mrs. Hamm and Mr. Royal for preparing the St. James School Choir to contribute two uplifting songs for our celebration. It takes a village!!!

Our Remembrance Day Memorial is scheduled for Wednesday November 9. Doors will open for 10:30am with the service starting at 10:40am. Please join us on this special occasion to commemorate our Veterans and Special Guests.
Our week began with the Grade 7 Haunted Trail that was enjoyed by all students in K – 6. Feedback was this Haunted Trail was simply the best one yet! Thank you to the Grade 7 students and Mr Foster for all of their hard work, creativity and labour of love for this much anticipated activity. The Halloween parade in the gym provided a vast display of colourful cartoon characters, princesses and some spooky costumes. The students were treated amongst their classrooms with plentiful Halloween treats provided by our SJS families.

Staff and Students continue to embrace the beautiful fall weather the Good Lord has provided. As it is cooler in the mornings, please have your child come with a light jacket or school hoodie.
SJS Municipal Student Vote 2022 was a great success with all classes engaging in a mock vote with the names of actual candidates from the Vernon Municipal Election. A big thank you to Mr. Foster and the Grade 7 Class for hosting the event and guiding students through the electoral process. The actual Municipal Elections are on Saturday! Don’t forget to do your civic duty and VOTE!
Thank you for your continued support of the annual SJS Terry Fox Run. Once we have calculated your generous donations we will provide a grand total.
